Getting our first Poke bowl restaurant down here in my town (South East Texas). Sushi is a huge hit so I know this will be. Already has a lot of people riled up over it. Going to try asap. Think it opens in a week or so.

There's a local chain of stores here called Tamura's that is nothing but a liquor warehouse with an expansive poke bar. Best poke bowls around, though the aforementioned Foodland grocery store poke bar is really close. Maybe it's because of this thread, but I've been craving a poke bowl recently. Ahi poke is still tops, with or without shoyu. A grocerette nearby also has pipi kaula poke, which is basically steak and it is AWESOME.
I can proudly say that I will never eat a tuna casserole again.

Breakfast of champions...sitting on a mountainside, eating poke and watching a hurricane pass by below (or bits if it, anyway). This bowl wasn't so good though...really salty and there's hot pepper flakes in it!...not bad but I wasn't prepared for that. 20180808_170115.jpg

How many ounces of meat you think are on those things?

The signage claims 1/3 pound poke. It seems to be enough. I take a couple bites, dig down to the rice*, take a couple more, dig down, then mix it up...when mixed, it seems nicely balanced.

*about the rice: it's such a staple.here that it's served all three meals. There's jokes every Thanksgiving about bringing a pot of rice every time your white friends invite you for TG dinner because you know they just gonna have potatoes. It was tough to get used to plain steamed rice at first, but I've since grasped the concept: the entrees are usually so very heavily seasoned that the rice is actually a palate cleanser between bites. I have come to like it (still gotta have muh taters tho).

I'm simple when it comes to poke/sushi, just a sh*tload of avocado, spicy mayo, and raw tuna, and I'm good.
