Serious thread for a few relevant questions.

Why hire the guy? If back-to-back 9-7 seasons with a playoff berth and a playoff win wasn't good enough then why hire him to begin with?

Why the farce of a coaching search when no other legitimate HC candidates were interviewed?

What is this organization looking for?

Seems like an absolute waste of two years.

The point was to right the ship with a safe hire. I think he met those expectations.

Jrob knew the ceiling had been met and let AAS know. Everything went according to plan.

The point was not to have more than 3 coaches on the payroll. The cost was simply elevating a TE coach salary to a HC salary. And we never knew the specifics. Now that Munchak and Whiz are off the books, we will only have Mularkey on the books for one year at the difference between TE and HC salary. Cost savings pure and simple.

Mularkey was probably agreeable to keep Mariota safe. It was an extremely unpopular hire 2 years ago.

Mularkey is a likable guy. But let’s not kid ourselves. Our “9-7” wins were fluff. Some gifted wins with resting players, a few steals mixed in with a few impressive wins. And our schedules were easy, and we have a bevy of high draft picks (new talent) that Mularkey had nothing to do with.

He was a temporizing hire from day one.

this is actually wrong, we will still be paying whisenhunt next year.. and mularkey. we will be paying 3 coaches this year regardless of the hire

after this year we will only be paying whoever we hire though

Hope is the greatest human emotion. You hire a new HC hoping things will improve. You spend a high draft pick on an unproven QB hoping he's the guy. You fire your HC so you can hire a new HC hoping he's better. Forget having to start over and learn a new system (when people are saying the O doesn't know the current one). It's like meeting a new girl......then reality sets in.
