It would be hard to find a player more familiar with the current Titans-Steelers rivalry than wide Titans receiver Nate Washington, who spent the first four years of his career in Pittsburgh and the last four in Tennessee.

Asked what memory first pops into his head from the rivalry, Washington went back to 2008, when the Titans punished his Steelers 31-14 in Nashville en route to a 13-3 record. The game drew even more attention because Titans players such as Keith Bulluck and LenDale White trampled on Pittsburgh’s famous Terrible Towels.

The way Washington recalls things, the Steelers didn’t want any part of a future playoff matchup with the Titans that year. That was averted when Baltimore upended Tennessee, while the Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl.

“I remember one game when (the Steelers) came here and (the Titans) were going 13-3,” Washington said. “Then I can recall sitting at home the first week of the playoffs after we won our (playoff) game, and I was sitting at home watching the Tennessee-Baltimore game. I was just hoping Baltimore would win because when we came here, I knew we weren’t going to be able to beat (the Titans). They beat up on us pretty bad, Tennessee did, and we went on to win the Super Bowl that year.”

The Titans and Steelers will be meeting for a sixth straight year on Sunday, despite the fact the teams haven’t been in the same division since 2001.

“I mean, we play them every year, so they may as well as move into our division it seems like,” Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner said. “I love going against that organization. I grew up watching them play. I always like that challenge because the receivers are really good and the quarterback is really good.”

We can thank those two fat guys for costing us that game vs Baltimore. (LenDale and crumpler)
