Mariota can make the throws. He lacks confidence. I think this preseason we take reins off and let him toss it as much as possible. I wanna see how he does given opportunity and of course staying healthy. Back to your statement I think there IS a difference between being incapable of making the grown and being unwilling/inconsistent.

First of all, wasn't Drew Bennett a quality WR and wasn't he exactly what you're suggesting we didn't have...a wr who developed into a quality player? He was drafted in 2001 and only had maybe 30 catches. But a maybe 3 year later he had 80 catches for 1200 yards and 11 td's and an important target for McNair!

And isn't Corey Davis developing? Didn't we watch him have some flashes in year one with even more flashes in the playoffs and then a more solid contributing role this year?

You doubt anyone remember Mason or Bennett? Do you think most posters here are 15-20 years old? It's shocking how many assumptions you make on this board without having ANY idea! And you know what they say about assumptions...

But be that as it may, you really give people here no credit for how much they watch football in general (not JUST the Titans) and how much they understand it. I think most people on this board understand the concept of developing players.

But sometimes you are confusing development with talent. It's interesting you bash a qb for being inconsistent but then suggest the wr's just need 4 more years before we should expect anything out of them. Which do you think is harder to play...qb or wr?

Kind of depends on the issue they are complaining about. Are they complaining because several of our wr's keep dropping td's and big plays? Do the wr's need years of development to be able to catch the ball??? Some things wr's need to learn and develop. Catching the ball isn't one of them.

And you are aware that some rookie wr's come in and are difference makers (or even 'just' quality players) from day 1 year 1, right? You make it sound like no wr can be good before year 4.

First, are you aware that Alex Smith threw for 4k in 2017? Did he develop into the next tier in your mind? Your reasoning doesn't really make sense nor is it how things actually work.

Again, Mariota has shown the skill to make as difficult a throw as a Brady or Brees can make. So you suggesting he can't make a particular throw (a physical skill) that the others can...is simply wrong. Mett has a very strong arm and can make any throw...and yet he's not even IN the NFL. Does that tell you elite QB's are only elite because of superior arm strength? I HOPE you KNOW the answer is OF COURSE NOT! As I just proved...despite you making this claim.

Secondly, if Brady were throwing all these deep balls and THAT is why he throws for so many yards in a season, you might find it difficult to explain why over the last 7 years, Brady has thrown for the same Yards per pass as Mariota in 5 of the 7 years and in some years he's thrown for a LOWER avg. This further DISPROVES your theory.

Lastly, if you WATCHED the SB or playoffs with the Pats...Brady's yards are actually INFLATED by his wr's catching and running for MORE yards. When he hits Edelman on a 5 yard crossing pattern...and then Edelman runs for 15 yards...did Brady make some difficult throw? Of course not!

Brady is great for OTHER reasons which I hope you will discover.

But here's a bonus question. If Brady and Mariota have the same 7.6 ypa for the year...but Mariota throws for 2528yds and Brady throws for 4355 yds, how is that possible? And no, it's not completion % since Mariota's was actually 3% higher.

Context is important and you're ignoring most of it.

Being inconsistent and unable are two VERY DIFFERENT things. Qb's who are UNABLE to read defenses will never be long term NFL starters or even backups for long. QB's who are INCONSISTENT in reading defenses (almost all rookie QB's) CAN develop into Hall of Fame QB's (Brady, Rodgers, etc) or solid starting QB's or career backups etc. There is a ton of proof that your correlation is incorrect.

We actually took one of Brady's weapons this previous year, and how did that turn out? As it so happens, every skill position player looks worse when the team doesn't have a QB.

There is a saying...when you've dug yourself into a hole, stop digging!

Are you referring to Dion Lewis? Lewis' caught 32 passes with Tom Brady. He caught 59 passes with Mariota. His YPA is slightly higher with Mariota. Since his rushing stats went down, you want to say that's because of Mariota and not the OL, playcalling, and coaches decision on pt? But you wanna say he looks worse because of Mariota with almost double the pass catching production FROM Mariota?

Which is the QB MORE responsible for in a RB's success...his run production or his pass catching production? You appear to be arguing run production.

In fairness, probably the best and most memorable block in team history was by Mariota and he did play call his own number of throwing a TD to himself so yea, maybe it is all because of Mariota.

Since the team became the Titans in 1999, they’ve had exactly seven 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Four of those came from the same player and just two of them have happened in the past 15 years.
