Tavon Austin

Off Season is here so lets heat the rumor mill back up.

"Rams Tavon Austin signed a 4 year, $42M contract including $28.5M guaranteed. If he’s still on the roster on March 16 they owe him a $5 million roster bonus. They can save $3 million in cap space by cutting him now, but there’s a cash savings that’s considerable since he’s under contract through 2021."

At an affordable price Tavon could do everything we expected Taywan (and for some reason Adoree) to do, but could also be a full time offensive gadget and play any position. The biggest reason is he also has a connection to Matt LaFleur who is looking to speed up the pace of the offense. He would instantly be the #2 WR, Mariota's short route blanket, our designated screen receiver (no more harry douglas) and would keep us from throwing big money at Landry or having to use a draft pick on someone like Christian Kirk. Thoughts?

 

This is the same offense that saw an achieving Sammy Watkins. Most of my takes on free agents are if they are at a friendly price. I think he's not much of a vertical threat, but more of a Percy Harvin get it and then go player. If they want to jump start the offense i don't know many other receivers you can find for a decent price with his talent.

 

He's not going to make more than Marquis Lee in free agency.
