By and large I agree with Polamalu; there are some hits that shouldn't ever be penalised, let alone fined; it is a dangerous game though and some things that perhaps weren't intended to be dirty or cheap shots (not everyone who led with their helmet meant to, after all) are still endangering player health and should be dealt with. Ticky-tacky calls though can go straight to hell. I haven't seen the game he's referring to, but I imagine at least one of those fines would have been justified.

...Personally, I'm still more vexed that a guy can draw a $7,500 fine for taunting, for god's sake. Pansifying the game in the interest of safety is one thing, but getting angry and punishing people for celebrating? That's just stupid. "If you don't like it, keep me out of the endzone." was the best way I heard it.

Brian Urlacher has been fined $20,000 by the NFL for abusive conduct toward a game official.

4 times the fine for verbal nastiness than a chop block? Are zebras an endangered species?
