Jimmy was leaving in 2018 on his own. The Patriots did what they always do with good players they can't afford and move them for draft picks.

For once Pats mishandled things, they weren't sure about Brady at 40 so they held onto Jimmy as insurance for as long as possible. They made a profit moving him for a 2nd but they could have had multiple picks if they didn't hold out til the week of the trade deadline
