You dont fix the pass defense by adding corners. We play to much zone anyways. With our scheme in order to fix our pass defense, we must first improve the DLINE and there is no better way to do that then with a dominant DT. Do what it takes to get star!

The Titans were interested in drafting a highly ranked cornerback at No. 20 back in April, but neither Stephon Gilmore nor Dre Kirkpatrick fell to them. Maybe they'll have more luck in the 2013 NFL Draft, as they do in this situation with one of the top players available filling a big need. Alterraun Verner will be entering his contract year in 2013, so Tennessee will need a new starter if it can't retain him. Besides, the Titans need to fix their 24th-ranked pass defense.

Quite the undertaking. Hard to predict a draft through 4 rounds. Especially this early. I am not sure about taking a CB but they do like to surprise us. And without a top safety in the draft CB might not be a bad idea. If this guy turns into another Champ Baily or Charles Woodson it would obviously be worth it. It is a lot easier to get a good OG than a good CB so might as well go for it.

If CB is BPA then you take him. By taking a CB that you can plug in as a starter outside day 1 then you improve 2 positions because Verner is an upgrade in the NB spot. It also then forces Verner's value down a little bit because in trying to resign him you know you aren't giving him #1 CB money. From a money ball standpoint in FA a starting OG is going to come cheaper than a starting CB as well.

I would not be upset with Lavitre and a safety in FA. Then Millner and Warford as our top 2 picks. We would be upgrading both OG spots, CB, NB, and safety. Then use the rest of the draft to upgrade RB depth, DL, and LB.

Also from a Money ball standpoint an NB plays more than your number 3 starting LB in most games.

As for OG, it is the easiest of the OL positions to fill. Much himself said years back that an OG is an OL who cannot play C or OT. Most C and OT can play OG but not the other way around. There is really no excuse for being weak at OG again this year.

For Safety my preference has always been for an FA. For one there appears to be no star S in this years draft. Also, our defense is badly lacking leadership. I am hoping we can improve leadership on the defensive side of the ball with an S in FA.

I would rather trade down and pick up an extra 2nd. The Titans need to establish an identity on both sides of the ball but at least start with either offense or defense. I would go as follows:
    DT Chris Canty 6'7 317
    SS George Wilson 6'0 214
Andy Levitre Not so high on him anymore. He is an elite pass protector but is just average at run blocking. Not needing an elite pass protector since we don't have an elite passing QB.

Draft (trade back and pick up additional second since Star will not drop that far. I like Ansah but he will not make it to us either, especially if we trade down. Makes no sense to upgrade the secondary with high picks just yet until we can do something about the pass rush because they will look awful as well)

    1. DJ Fluker 6'5 355 OT Can play RT or OG. Great at run blocking and has extremely long arms to help with pass blocking. Provides insurance just in case Stewart is not ready or in case Warford doesn't make it to our 2nd pick.
2a. Larry Warford 6'3 335 OG This solidifies the right side of the line for years to come. Stewart if he comes back can move to left guard (I know he has not played the spot but would be beneficial for him and help the team as well) and bring some nastiness on the right side and teach that to Roos
These 2 picks brings us identity on the offensive side of the ball as a power run team just like the old Dallas Cowboys use to run with Emmitt Smith. Their OL was huge. This would help CJ tremendously.

Now for the rest. We have no DE depth and barely have quality starters. Wimbley is a rush specialist at best. Line help is what is needed with some secondary.
    2b. DE Margus Hunt 6'8 280
    3a. DT Brandon Williams 6'2 341
3b. SS Jonathan Cyprien, Phillip Thomas, Barcarri Rambo, or TJ McDonald
    4. DE William Gholston 6'7 277 Can play both DE or DT spots on the line. Had 10 pass breakups. Provides good depth at DE and DT and has awareness to bat down passes.
    5. C Mario Benavides 6'4 295

it would be a waste for us to give up anything to move up to get star when we need depth and have many holes to fill especially when floyd is just as good

We may not have to move up to get star

Walter just updated his mock draft:

    1. Dee Milliner
    2. Matt Elam
    3. Alvin Bailey
    4. Tank Carradine

    I'd prefer:
    1. Warmack
    2. Elam
    3. Carradine (don't think he'll be available in the 4th)

I can't see any way we pass on OL in both round 1 & 2.
