The Titans called up fullback Collin Mooney the day before Sunday’s game against the Steelers, and he did enough to keep his roster spot, at least for now.

Mooney played in 17 of the team’s 67 offensive snaps on a day when the Titans ran the ball 42 times for 112 yards against the Steelers. Coach Mike Munchak said Mooney played well after being promoted from the team’s practice squad to replace Quinn Johnson, who was played on Injured Reserve.

The Titans worked out veteran fullbacks Michael Robinson and John Conner last week, but don’t plan to sign either right now.

“We have a lot of confidence in Collin,’’ Munchak said. “With his versatility, he’s a guy who can run the ball, too. He’s a guy you can lean on in a game. He ran the ball well at Army … and he’s a guy we have confidence in if needed. He did run the ball well and he blocked very well against a good football team, but that is something that from week to week will be decided upon.”

I was at the mall a couple months ago (here in Houston) and saw an older guy in a Titans hat/tshirt, couldn't help myself from giving him a "Go Titans!" comment. Turns out it was Mooney's dad - we talked a little bit and it turns out he went to a rival high school down here. Can't help but root for the guy now. Let's go Colin!
