Even the quality of the Indy O line is a bit overstated. They were #11 in QB hits allowed, and #20 in rushing yards and #22 in YPC. We were #5 in QB hits allowed, #7 in rushing yards, and #16 in YPC. Luck actually took far more hits than Mariota, but 30+ fewer sacks . Just another example of a far superior QB making everyone around him look better.

"Potential" is not an adjective you want to use to describe your "Franchise" QB heading into his 5th year

Keeping Mariota has nothing to do with drafting a possible replacement. But you should at least wait and see if the prospect pans out before abandoning your whole ship and starting over.

Only time will tell how crazy I am. Funny how the players would probably disagree with you. And the coaches are giving him another year.

Disagree it has nothing to do with Mariota but agree that there’s is no reason Mariota has to be out the door and written off before a possible replacement is selected.

I just think (and it’s discussed on other threads) that the QB draft class is better in 20’ and if we’re taking a QB in 20’ in the first round, maybe even the second, it’s likely as replacement of Mariota who is probably gone.

“Another year” is its own point to how much doubt the coaches have in Mariota. They just picked up a 5th year option vs. negotiating a longer term contract. That’s something I remember reading that no other QB has done yet. Every QB was either realeased before a 5th year option was accepted or they received a full new contract before the 5th year option.

They don't doubt his ability. There's a huge difference between injury precaution and playing precaution.
