That's not true at all. Mcnair was a great player as far back as 98. Look at the numbers. Just because people didn't start appreciating him until 2002 doesn't change that fact. He was the same caliber player from 98-2001 as he was in 2002.

Mcnair in 98- 80 passing rating 559 yards rushing.

Mcnair in 2002 84 passing rating 440 yards rushing.

Wow a whole 4 point difference in the passing rating and he was an even more dominant runner in 98.

In 2000 we had 8 pro bowl players not including Mcnair so how was eddie carrying the team?

FYI Mcnair had a far better WR corp in 202 than in 1998.

It's not early enough to tell. Neal is definitely the better FB, CJ the better RB.

For me it's a question of whats more important; making it to a Super Bowl or having a 2K yard season that lead to nothing.

Getting to the super bowl and losing is about as meaningful as getting knocked out in 1st round, we'll always be associated with coming up short. At least CJ did what very few others have, there's always going to be a loser in the SB.

Well by now we should have 2 titles in my eyes. But we don't, and you know why? Because Jeffery Fisher eats fish sticks.

Ok, the stats may not reflect it, but I always remember the early McNair era as being very predictable and highly reliant on EG, that is until the McNair-Mason Duo developed.

    I agree.

McNair's first great season was 2001, when he realized he was going to have to put the team on his shoulders because we flat out sucked. We went 7-9 that season, but I could tell McNair was close to a break out year.

A good comparison is the 89 yard run CJ had against Houston. What he did on one run would have taken EG 20-30 carries. Houston did have 8 guys in the box on that play which is why once CJ broke the LOS he was gone.

EG was good but there is a long list of guys comparable or better. Johnson could be sitting on topas one of the greatest of all time. He could tear a knee this year and never play football again and still have a better shot at the HOF than EG because of his 2000 yard season. That is why Gale Sayers is in the HOF despite not having a long career. Greatness can't be denied.
