It's going to be up to Vince. Sure it seems to make more since, at the moment, to let him sit and learn behind Volek and Mauck (or who ever) but if he comes in here and picks up on things quicker than imagined it could change everything quick. Let's say he struggles early, that's expected. Let's say by the fourth pre-season game he starts showing signs of improvement. Not to say he's ready to start but at least he's showing that he's going to get it. Volek gets hurt in the third or fourth game (which is highly likely). The second string QB comes in and bombs. I think Fisher whould have to play him and and as long as he looked like he was improving from game to game I'd say Billy's days as a starter are over.

This is strickly hypothetical but if you think about it very plausible. I don't think there's anyone on this board that believes that Volek can play a 16 game schedule without injuries. If we stick with Mauck, and that's if, how much better would he really be than Vince?? I would expect Vince to at least move into the #2 spot at some point this year and if things are going as bad as thay did last year he'll probably even get a start or two. That's assuming he doesn't get a start due to an injury to Volek.

I think you have to throw Vince out there next season. One year onthe bench (at the most) is all he will need, then it is time to learn on the job. IMO it would be crazy to sit Vince for two years and then make him learn on the job in his thord year. Why? You learn by doing, and Vince has the ability to run around and make plays, even if he is still a bit confused about things. Vince has pro bowl potential in his 3rd season if he gets to start in his 2nd season.

How about pro-bowl his second season.
I've given this some thought and have come to this conclusion. Volek and whoever else we have on the roster at QB will muddle through the first 2-3 quarters of preseason games with some success. In the last third or so of the pre-season game in comes VY. Playing against what amounts to college level talent he will run wild, pass well and before the pre-season is over there will be a huge out cry to get this stud into the game.
The more I think about it we need to simply give Vince the ball, declare him to be our QB and let him play. By years end he will win the ROY. Letting him just sit on the bench is worthless. Sure he will make some mistakes but he will learn from them and only be a better player as the year goes on. I really think VY is the type of guy who will learn alot faster by being out there playing instead of observing.
Think about this for a moment. How "polished" was McNair after sitting a couple of years. McNair's success was being able to avoid the rush and make something on the field that wasn't drawn up. It was only after playing a few years he really started to grasp the finer points of playing QB. Most of his progress came when he started playing. VY didn't come out of Alcorn State either. His transition to the NFL will not be as dramatic. His ability to freelance and make plays with his instincts and legs will allow him to be effective enough from day one. He can watch film and get tutored on the fine points while he is playing just as well as sitting on the bench. The difference is he will acclimate more quickly to the speed of the game and truly be ready in year two to be something special.

I would rather see them throw VY into the fire. What's the difference? If we don't put him out there we win maybe 8 or 9 games, and that's being generous. If you do put him out there we win 4 or 5 games. Either way it's probably not going to be a great season. At least if we throw him our there he'll be ready by next season.
  7. Not necessarily. Remember, the fans have a vote. If he's exciting (ala Mike Vick) it could happen.

That said, I wouldn't be betting on it...

See what Reeses had to say on the topic , something along the lines of ripping him down , shredding his confidence turning him into a vegetable

    I can't find it. ....... hang on ........ :irked:

anyway,... no need to throw him to the wolves just yet

I doubt he'll be ready in '06 but if he was to see some action late in the season if the Titans have a big lead in a game, I'd love for him to go into the '07 offseason with some confidence. The last thing the Titans will want to do is shake the guy's confidence and make him thing about it for seven months.

Gunny, I bow before your mighty post total! If you are a real Gunny, then you have my undying respect for my son's experience in the Corps.

Now let us talk football. What if Vince is able to do things that other players cannot, nor possibly ever will be able to do? What if he IS all that?
What if he CAN drive the team right down the field, right away? Or, can your WRs not get separation? Can your offensive linemen not hold a block?
I haven't watched a whole pro game in 20 years. But I am going to watch the first Titans game that I can. Prepare yourself to be REAL pleased.
