    Run Game Issues (CJ)

Am I the only one that thinks CJ has not been very effective this year?

I can't tell if its our O-line not making holes or if he's just not willing to hit the hole as hard as he did last year. I remember him running over DBs even some LBs last year. This year I feel like as soon as he gets touched he's instantly on the ground. Often times, that's around or behind the line of scrimmage.

It's frustrating that the weakest part of our offense this year is the run game... I feel like VY and the WRs have really stepped up but have got very little support from the run game. Sure there's the occasional long run, but its also causing a lot of low play drives. Also, a lot of his stats that make him seem like he's doing well are garbage time yards/TDs.

This isn't an "oh my god we lost to the Chargers" thread. Its more what I've seen throughout the first 8 games of the year. I feel like every commentator gives him a free pass like Favre and they'll say he's amazing regardless of how bad he plays. Am I way off, or are other people noticing the same thing?

I just get annoyed everytime CJ gets a carry now, he does absolutely nothing on 4/5 runs it seem. At least when Ringer is in, he gets at least two or so yards, and usually more.

Fry Welcome to the land of tomorrow!

He doesn't have anywhere to go and when he does he doesn't read it right.

    Very frustrating to watch.

I'm also sick of commentators saying his numbers don't look as good because he is being used in short yardage situations, he did that last year too.

Its a combination of poor O-line play, CJ attacking the holes and coaching.

I, too, feel like our running game is lacking... BADLY.

    Something's not... right.

I hope it gets "fixed" because, otherwise... the cutting of Blount will become a bigger issue.

No, you are not off. I agree. I am not sure if it is the OL not opening holes, or CJ being much more tentative (he seems to want to act like he is line dancing at the Wild Horse Saloon when he gets the ball), but the run game has not been very good this year. Statistically, he is having a good year, but he gets popped for big losses alot more this year than last year. Earlier in the season I thought that opening the playcalling up would help, but it has really not so far.

I find myself looking forward to Ringer getting in the least I am more comfortable that he will not lose 5 yards on a run.

    I blame Scaife.

    He sucks.

Yeah, I kinda agree with that. He's not a "great" running back... but, for some reason, his style seems to fit this team a little better. He doesn't get the big runs or big yardage... but he seems to GET yardage, more times than not.

It's weird... but, I'm getting tired of CJ just not getting it done. I hope whatever is wrong gets fixed, because the lack of production is ticking me off.

I agree with you. Something is def. wrong, I think he's nursing a hammy injury.

I really wish CJ would go North & South instead of East & West. He's always just dancing around in the back-field, hit a hole and GO! The OL can't block for 10 seconds while you decide what hole to hit. Earlier we were saying, "If only we could get a passing game going", well our passing game has been stepping up.. same ole' CJ.

I'm not losing faith though. But damn CJ.. get it going!
