A 3rd round pick typically has more flaws than a 2nd round pick...which is why they go in different rounds. Taylor's not a bad player, we just don't know if he can be a full time starter.

Brown is a bit more polished wr. Typically you expect your 1st and 2nd round picks to start or see significant action....except if they are injured (Simmons).

Many young WRs have struggled with drops. Just part of adjusting to the speed of the game for a guy from a smaller conference, as well as the playbook . I think that you should expect to see much more consistency by year 3 for a WR.

Catching the ball has almost nothing to do with adjusting to NFL speed so that's not an excuse for drops.

He's saying that adjusting to the speed of the game and the more advanced concepts has him thinking too much. Eventually, he will just settle down and play.

It's pretty much the same in any high level endeavor.

That would be an excuse in route running or getting off the line or something he's slow to do because he's thinking too much. But none of that is happening. He looks fast on the field and is getting open. The one thing a receiver does not have to adjust to is just catching the ball!

But if your head is spinning thinking about routes and play calls and whatnot, it can then screw up the catch, which is dependent on concentration.

This is why you typically saw a third year jump. The things that used to be a conscious thought process begin to become muscle memory, automatic.

One thing noted in his scouting report was that he had difficulty adjusting to off-target throws. Most of the drops that I recall were on plays which required him to extend himself or adjust his route, so I'm sure that these situations are causing him to think too much about his catching technique as they aren't as natural to him.

Taylor's biggest problem is we dont stick with him much after the 1st quarter.

Usually he does most his work early in the game then we dont call his number. 43% of his catches are in the 1st quarter

Ill give him the benefit of the doubt. Mariota wasn't the only one having to learn a completely new system. Plus he was robbed of playing time in his first year under Mularkey. Then this past year due to injuries the offense really went away from him and most of the receivers not named Davis. One more thing I had to factor into this. He was forced to play out of position on the outside instead of in the slot where I believe is his best fit because of the lousy options at the WR2 position.

HOWEVER if he wants to amount to anything in this offense he has to use his hands to catch the dang football and get more comfortable catching passes outside of his frame. He has worlds of potential no doubt in that.
