Watching the Titans in the return game this season has been painful most of the time.

Darius Reynaud was released after seven games because of the poor decisions and mistakes he made. His replacement, Damian Williams, didn’t have much of a chance to prove himself before being injured Sunday vs. the Jaguars.

Enter Devon Wylie, the man with an interesting nickname – “Wiggles.”

“It’s another adjective for being shifty, so they called me Wiggles a lot in college,’’ Wylie said on Tuesday. “I’ve had a whole bunch of nicknames, but that one stuck. Being wiggly is what I have been described as.”

The Titans hope Wylie can provide a spark after being promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday. He’ll serve as the team’s returner on punts and kickoffs against the Colts on Thursday night.

A fourth round draft pick out of Fresno State, Wylie played in six games for the Chiefs in 2012, and has also spent time with the Cardinals and Steelers. He averaged 21.2 yards on nine kick returns last year with the Chiefs, and averaged 5.2 yards on five punt returns. He’s been timed at a 4.37 in the 40.

Williams suffered a hip injury against the Jaguars and is out for Thursday’s game.

“A guy go down, and someone has to pick up the slack and keep the team going,’’ Wylie said. ”Catching kicks and punts is kind of like riding a bike, I have done in a lot. I had a little time off, but I picked it up real quick.

“I’m looking forward to (Thursday). I’ll be moving real quick out there. It should be a lot of fun.”

Just hope the guy can field the ball and make good decisions. Beyond that, maybe he'll surprise us.

After Sunday's dog-ass performance, nothing about this team and it's personnel surprises me... Err, except when we actually win a game that is...

Wylie sounds a lot like Mariani in how he prepares for games. I'm interested to see if he can be as solid as Mariani and field the right kicks.
