Howard isn't gonna be available at 18, but 5 is rich for him.

If you want Howard, trade from 5 to 10ish

The amazing number from his workout was his 3 cone time which would have placed him in the top 10 of all the CBs...I would not complain taking him but 5 is too high for a TE in a yr that is deep with TE talent

I take him at five unless you find a suitor to trade down in the 8-12 range and then select him but if we want him it has to be 5.

Top ten amongst DBs in this year's draft in the 3 cone drill? That's amazing. Wouldn't be mad if we got him at 5.

Yeah his 6.85 3 cone had him tied for 8th amongst the CBs and his 4.18 20 yd shuttle would have been 10th among the CBs.....The guy has the feet to separate from defenders in short areas which is certainly a key for TEs who often run option routes against LBers and safeties.

IMO he is another one of those guys who is a very low risk pick. He can come in from day #1 and make an impact. Drafting a TE at #5 is certainly a reach, but drafting a RT in the top 10 is also. JRob has shown he wants football players with immediate impact. Howard fits the bill.

He is kinda that Calvin Johnson-esque "sure thing" talent. I agree entirely that we should trade back into the 8-12 range and draft him if he's there. Then go with the best CB or ILB available at 18. Then WR in the 2nd or 3rd. Loads of depth there.

McShay has him being taken at 4 with us taking Jonathon Allen at 5. Didn't get to see who he had slotted for 18.

Yes. I don't get too caught up in positions. Elite talent is elite talent. We can't get position locked just because.

I would have been against it before but now I'd have no prob with Howard at 5 and best defender at 18 . If he checks all the boxes , why not? He's big, fast , can block and if his approach matches are culture then pull the trigger. Moving down a little would be ideal , it may not seem likely now but on draft day crazy stuff happens.
