I see brown and gooden being our two lbs in Nickel. Just enough thump to still play the run (especially if we put SLH in the middle) and enough speed to stick with TEs and under routes.

Great athlete, but upon watching a lot of his game tape, he would be a huge liability on the field right now.

After watching him against UT, I can say he looks dizzy and lost out there. He bites big time on every play action fake, and he takes awful angles.

This guy will be a work in progress, but when he can become disciplined, the skies will be the limit for him and his athletic talent.

Okay so let's say we develop this guy nicely and we get his full potential out of him, where does he start? Brown might be our best defensive player (or at least most talented) so where does that put Gooden? Over Ayers?

Puts him in nickel. Means ayers would be able to rush the passer more often as well as give us some ability to cover while still having a decent ability to stop the run between him and brown.

Rotation in lbs isn't a bad thing either. I imagine McCarthy coming off the field in nickel situations because he is mainly good against the run and isn't very fast. Ayers is better at being a rush LB... gooden has the speed and coverage skills to be our nickel LB.

3-3-5 sets would work well with ayers, brown and gooden.

    ------------------Griffin ------------
    ----------------------------------------------Pollard

    BRW-- Verner---------------------------------------------------McCourty
    -----------------------Ayers ----Gooden ---- Brown----------
    ------------------------ Martin--SLH--Casey -------------------

In this set Ayers can rush the passer beside Martin while Gooden and Brown shift over to go into coverage or help stop the run. Along with that our heavy SS pollard would come down to help kill the run while we still have maximum speed on the field. Putting Verner inside the nickel would also give us great instinct play against pitch plays as well as screens. Wreh Wilson and McCourty go into bump/press as well. Griffin plays center fielder or pollard drops back as well depending. Along with this you could do over load blitzes with brown and ayers coming in or pollard and brown or Verner and ayers... They all have the ability to get after the passer.

That's at least how I would be running this. Lol

That all looks great, except Michael Griffin. Hopefully he wakes up this year or Pollard might kill him.

Hahaha. If we have a decent press/bump with blitzes, he will look alot better... Or much worse... He's probably the weakest link in that formation... Or our defense in general.

I'm given hope for Griff in these bigger linemen. If the front seven can keep the running game out of the secondary, maybe the vagician can play center field well.

Oh. So you mean he'll continue doing exactly what he's doing now?

Well. Nice rebuttal there... you got me! Now the pick makes perfect sense!

I have no doubt Griffin can play center field out there. His 2 INT's vs the Jets showed that, he can be a ball hawk. It's when we rely on him elsewhere that he falters lol

Do not see significant playing time in year 1 for this. At least not on defense. He should be great on special teams.
