I don't disagree with that at all. But Heimi likes to throw a deep ball, and we've got QBs who can get the ball down field.

So, if we draft one WR and pick up 2 vet WRs, you'll drop your pants at the opener? Is that right?

How much do you think Gonzalez would cost? He is under contract currently.

If we draft a WR in rounds 1 or 2, and pick up two new vets that make the team, yes.

We're not spending that kind of money on WRs.

    Well...

That's a very difficult question to answer. The chiefs are usually mum about contract details. From what I gather, he got a 5 year contract Jan of 08 with 17mil guaranteed. According to USA today he got a 10mil sb this year and gives him a cap hit of a little over 5mil.

    Here's where it gets sticky...

We are not responsible for the 10mil signing bonus so that wouldn't affect our cap...meaning theorectically, he'd cost us LESS than 5mil/yr. However, he's guaranteed another 7mil and how his contract is structured for next year is unkown.

So he could cost more or less than 5mil. If he plays 3 more years, it could cost us less. If he plays one year...his cap hit in 09 or 10 could be much larger depending on how his contract is.

Furthermore, he may want a new contract when he gets traded. Jared Allen was under contract when the Chiefs traded him to Minnesota and he got paid the largest contract in history for a defensive player.

He will certainly cost us a 2nd rnd pick and quite possibly more considering where we pick in rnd 2.

Again, it would be a costly endeavor in cap and draft picks for a decent upgrade...but the cost far outweighs the difference between Gonzo and Scaife. If I knew Gonzo was gonna play for 5 years, it'd be one thing, but he said 2 years...MAYBE!
