The entire argument is preposterous.. There is a place for Lil Wayne, Radiohead and everything in between (except Phil Collins).

I dont know how you can put TI and little Wayne in the same category either. But I will say this. For these guys to get big, they have to make a catchy rap that has a decent hook. You get that, you sell millions. This could be why you may think that their rap is stupid, when in reality it is what sells, therefore making them millionaire's therefore making them pretty damn smart in my book. BUT I know Gloat, you could write circles around them too. Ever think there is a method to their "stupidty"? Or do you think they just get lucky...over...and over....again. Sure Mos Def, and a bunch of the other guys have "MEANING" in their rap. But at the same time, they dont have as much money as LiL Wayne, and will never sell nearly as many records.

While it may seem like I am defending these clowns, I am just providing a separate perspective. I do however like I a song or rap with a good hook. But that is me.....

Disagreed. Today's rap is actually leaps and bounds better than it was- unfortunately, MTV and radio only play the absolute worst of rap. You have to dig for the great stuff, but once you find it- you think Tupac was average at best.

Then there's The Roots, Brother Ali, Camu Tao, Jedi Mind Tricks, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, MURS, Immortal Technique etc.
But if you like a commercial sound, there are commercial rappers out there 30x's better than Wayne, Soulja Boi, and other ringtone rappers:

Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9, Tech N9ne, Jay Z, Kanye West (before the new weird stuff), JadaKiss, Sheik Louch, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Fabolous, Wiz Khalifa, Beenie Seigel, and on and on...

I hate that since lil wayne is on every song on the radio now that he literally kills the genre for people with respectable taste in lyrics or music.

I agree in a way. You make something simple and catchy enough- you cash in before your style is outdated and you fall off the map. Some rappers would rather do that than make music that lasts, and actually lifts people up.
IMO, lil wayne is a suspect in the 'keep kids stupid, keep them uneducated' camp. I just think he's too dumb to know or care.

His spill on drinking 'Syrup' was about the dumbest thing I've ever heard a human speak on. Bun B and others say they've quit due to the death it causes, but leave it to Wayne...to actually stick up for the drug/drink.

He's the Britney Spears of rap. Has the exact same fanbase also. I'd be cool with that, if he or his fans admitted it rather than saying retarded things like 'he's the best rapper out because he sells records!' Again...so did Spears. Didn't mean she had any talent.

if you haven't already, you should check out The Invincibles. they're a collaboration with Whole Wheat Bread and Murs. they haven't released an album yet, but they're pretty good.

Will do. And good mention on Ludacris earlier. Probably the best commercial rapper from the south right now.
As for Soulja Boi, Wayne, etc- That stuff is fine in the club and even to listen to. I play stuff like Ricky Ross in the mornings before I go to work just because the beats get me going. Flow is simple, but it sounds good.

I just can't LISTEN to it. Eventually, you need substance or the catchy beats get boring.

You're kidding, right? Wayne's lyrics sh*ts on Eminem, Dre, DMX and Luda. His CD is good, and I have little tolerance for stupid rap. Now, when he's freestyling on other people's tracks, it's sometimes lame. But the track he did with Keri Hilson, "You're turning me on", was hot.
