If you want to bash Mathews and Munch in the evaluation process it was why Turner started ahead of Velasco in the first place.

Velasco played well for us last year and it should have been his job to lose. They thought enough of him to make him a 2nd rd tender and then give the starting job to Turner at the beginning of camp.

Then because Velasco's salary is a bit steep for a backup they cut him.

If Velasco is our starter from week one we do not have near the problems we had with Turner.

Turner was supposed to be better fr the blocking schemes we were using. Obviously not the case.

Cap space. 2M for starting a small number of games and then being a backup, compared to vet minimum. Easy choice.
Yeah, Turner has his flaws. But I don't think playing Velasco would've changed the outcome of games.

    Ignoring how silly this is-

    I don't think he'll "suck". I just don't think he'll be great.

I feel it's probably a lateral move. No loss. No gain.

    So it's worth a shot.

For some reason, I could see him wearing a shirt with the word "COLLEGE" printed on it.

I loved the Schwenke pick and still think he's our steal of the draft. I remember him really standing out in the senior bowl. There was one play where he and Larry Warford from Kentucky parted the Red Sea on the goal line and just demolished the d-linemen. It was a thing of beauty. That made me want to go back and watch some of his tape and he's nasty. That's exactly what we need. He got nothing but high praise when we drafted him this year from the people covering the draft (not that they are always right but it's nice when they all agree on a player and have a high opinion of them).
