Palmer: Hawkins must make himself viable

At best he's the third guy, and that's rare. He was still behind Britt (when playing), Nate, Williams, Cook and possibly Stevens on the who will I look at chart.

It's still good enough for what he his.

 

Don't hold your breath waiting for this guy to do anything. He's got a busted up ankle that needs surgery, but he wont do it cause he wants to play, but he might as well be out now. What's he got, 1 catch in 3 games vs back-ups?

 

I find it hard to believe Hawk and DWill (another guy that hasn't done squat this pre-season with only 1 catch) both forgot how to play WR. It is like people think these guys just decided to suck. This is pre-season. You can't judge these guys based on that but look at what they have done when games really counted.

As for Hawkins he is our bottom WR. So sure if we can upgrade we should. But are we going to look at pre-season stats to decide what WR we want to sign? And why would we want to get some rotting vet WR other teams didn't want? The only type of guy I'd consider is a young guy with upside that can return. Otherwise Hawk knows the playbook and has proven he can be a decent contributor if called on. Nobody is calling for DWill to be replaced and he hasn't been any more productive.

I bet if we signed Gaffney (68 catches for 947 yards last season) he would not end up with any better stats that Hawkins or DWill. So stick with the guy who already knows the system we have and an existing contract with.

I'm hating on his penchant for running the wrong routes and getting his QBs in trouble.

I agree with whoever said it, because we're down a WR, get someone who can fill in for depth and fill in for return duties too.
