I'm in the market for something for my daughter to take to college. Here's what I need... • Lightweight • Around 15" screen • Built-in webcam • CD/DVD 95% of what she'll do is write papers and play on the web. She might dabble in some Photoshop. I'd like to keep it under $900. I'm a mac guy so, if the best I can do is $1200+, would just go with a MacBook Pro. I need this to last, at least, three years.
Worse case scenario if someone does not have anything, Asus makes some real quality laptops that all fit that definition. The one I am using now, has all of those and I am using it for school. Paid around $500 from Best Buy, but I'm sure you can find a better deal online, I was just in a hurry.
You can get something that matches all those qualifications in a Windows 7 machine for between $400 and $800. College tuition ain't cheap. Just sayin'...
Or you can wait until she is registered and probably get a discount as well. Dell usually always has something like that.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony - 15.5" VAIO E Series Laptop - 6GB Memory - 750GB Hard Drive - Silver/5570073.p?id=1218663132359&skuId=5570073&st=vaio 15"&cp=1&lp=1 Vaio's are great and very reliable. I run photoshop on my Vaio and it runs flawlessly. Mine has never had problems (3rd year with my Vaio).
Thanks. You have one? http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Series-SVE15115FXS-15-5-Inch-Aluminum/dp/B0080C21Y8 No tax.
Apple usually has some deals going on now for college students. I actually just got a macbook air and I love it so far. My old laptop was pretty big and bulky and couldn't carry it around to class with the rest of my stuff. Even if you don't go with the Air make sure you go with something easy to take with you.
I do indeed. It hasn't show any signs of slowing at all. I've never thought about buying a laptop on Amazon. It sure does beat the crazy crowds at Best Buy on tax-free weekend.
she'll probably be upset if you dont get her the cute little mac lol built in cd/dvd takes macbook air out of the question.
