<em>Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky</em> <p>It's too bad <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8436" target="_new">Matt Jones</a> couldn't get things in order. His recent jail stay for violating the terms of the deal he made to avoid the full consequences of a cocaine possession charge from last summer appears to have been the last straw for the Jaguars.</p> <table border="0" align="right"> <tr> <td> <table border="0" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2" align="right"> <tr> <td> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#c0c0c0"> <tr> <td> <table border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1" width="100%"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#ffffff"><img src="http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nfl/players/65/8436.jpg" alt="" hspace="1" vspace="1" width="65" height="90" align="left" /></td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <font face="Verdana" size="1" style="line-height: 1.5em"><font color="#808080">&nbsp;Jones</font> </font></td> </tr> </table> </td> <td> <table border="0" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2" align="right"> <tr> <td> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#c0c0c0"> <tr> <td> <table border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1" width="100%"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#ffffff"><img src="http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nfl/players/65/1757.jpg" alt="" hspace="1" vspace="1" width="65" height="90" align="left" /></td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <font face="Verdana" size="1" style="line-height: 1.5em"><font color="#808080">&nbsp;Holt</font> </font></td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <p>ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Jaguars have <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3984684" target="_blank">released Jones</a>.</p> <p>Even before this development, I expected the Jaguars to be interested in <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=1757" target="_new">Torry Holt</a>. Now I think they will be even more of a player for the veteran receiver, and they could compete with division rival Tennessee for Holt.</p> <p>From what I've heard, the Titans did make inquiries about Holt before he was released by St. Louis, but no one has told me it turned into serious trade negotiations as mentioned in this <a href="http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/03/sources-holt-to-titans-trade-fell-apart/" target="_blank">report</a>.</p> <p>If Holt was reluctant to renegotiate his contract to facilitate that trade, it seems like he'd have to come to terms with the market being different than he hopes if he's to land with the Titans.</p> <p>Aging receivers rarely decline gradually. Holt's been playing on a team that's struggled, which has been a factor in his numbers, of course. But his yards per catch have been on a steady decline: 14.6 in 2004, 13.0 in 2005, 12.8 in 2006 and 2007, 12.4 in 2008.</p> <p>If he's healthy and affordable, he seems to me to be a veteran presence who can contribute and lead on a receiver-needy team like the Jaguars or Titans.</p> <p>Reports say he's out of the country on vacation, so it could be a while before we start to hear about the interest level around the league and possible landing sites.</p> <p>Expect Jacksonville and Tennessee to be among the first inquiries.</p> <p>As for Jones' future, he was a steady possession guy -- excuse the pun, it's the correct football word -- who could be a good player on a team that has a big-play guy or two. The question is what team is willing to take him on with a new suspension under the personal conduct policy likely pending and knowing his propensity for off-the-field issues.</p>

The losing has been gnawing at Pace and Holt - which is why they wanted out of the Rams without causing too much of a fuss. Holt will have to decide between a bad team offering him the most money (potentially) versus going to a contender that will offer him less. We'll find out soon enough...

I think we should just give the Jags JMac and we sign Holt
