You would be surprised how much worse we would be. Our DTs cant even clog up the run in a 4-3...how is one DT going to help stop the run. Sure, you could make the case that we would have an extra LB, but his size wouldnt be a problem to most blockers.

Ill say it again...WITH THE PEOPLE WE HAVE, SWITCHING TO A 3-4 IS OUT OF THE QUESTION.

In a 3-4 we would play 2 of our DTs. One(starks probably) would play the strong side DE just like 300lb ty warren plays the left side for pats.

That said there is no way we switch to the 3-4 so why are we having this discussion?

well then who will play the other DE? If we were to run the 3-4, we would have one guy out of position (Starks) and 2 guys who are too small for the 3-4 (Haynesworth and KVB)

But again, I agree with you, there is no way we switch to a 3-4 so this is a useless discussion.

The right end would have to be KVB. It's ok to have one smaller guy if you already have 2 300lb+ guys.

I think you made a lot of good points. You are right about haynesworth. While haynesworth could play great in such a system he will likely wear down faster. Could say the same thing about a guy like henderson.

More than likely the titans in such a scheme would have to sign or draft a true NT and let haynesworth play left end. Now that is true power..

    Interesting comparison..

The pats starting 3 d-lineman last year averaged 311 lbs.

The titans 4 starting d-lineman averaged 290 lbs.

The pats 4 linebackers averaged 252 lbs per man.

Our starting 3 LBs averaged just 233lbs per man.

That's 20 lbs per position. The pats starting 7 averaged 277 lbs per man. Our starting front 7 averaged 265 lbs per man.

So thats illustrated things pretty well. Even in our defense with 4 lineman we are 12 lbs a man smaller.

One thing we know for absolute certainty is that laboy could never play DE in a 3-4. He can't stay healthy as it is. At 253 lbs Laboy is average size for a 3-4 linebacker..

We don't have outside linebackers for a 3-4. Briggs is only one side of the equation. Tulloch, Bulluck, Fowler, and Thornton are all inside LB's in a 3-4 scheme. Besides that, Schwartz has always been running 4-3 and nickel. I think we would need a new D coordinator to start up a 3-4 all of the sudden. As much as I would like to see that happen, it wouldn't help us this year and it's really not going to happen.

Odom wouldn't be a good fit either. Not strong enough for a 3-4 DE and not fast enough to play the OLB. So basically all of our DEs on the roster would not make good 3-4 DEs and none of them are athletic and fast enough to play on the outside.

As far as the size thing that is why I hope we can draft a guy like Carriker. If we grab a guy like Moss we get even smaller.

STOP IT! We are not changing to a 3-4 D. We do not have a single player that fits that scheme so it is extremely pointless to discuss the possibility of so and so in a 3-4. We simply do not have the NT or the LBs to play a 3-4 effectively.
