Hmmm... well, perhaps you forgot about it but Sony did say the trailer was real gameplay...

:dead2: I think this could not be more appropriate to this conversation, I mean 3 years ago someone at Sony lied or made a mistake. Who even cares anymore?

Well it's a matter of definition. I only saw what was in that youtube clip so I don't know what else might have been shown. Was it heavily scripted? Yes. Was it a real-time render? Yes. So you could justify saying it's gameplay because the engine is capable of doing it, although maybe not on standard hardware.

HALL97ROX - I'm not sure where all that is coming from. I simply wanted to point out that I wasn't making things up.

Vigsted - that is a pre-rendered video done by some 3D studio. You need to watch the entire video. Chances are that Guerrilla wasn't even done building the engine for the game when that trailer was released.

Gunny - that link has Guerrilla quoting that the '05 trailer was a target render of what they thought would be possible on the PS3. And while those pics look awesome, it's unfair to compare them to low quality pics. Bottom line is that when you put the trailer in motion, it's simply unmatched for things like animations, explosions, etc.

I doubt that we'll get to experience stuff like this in the current gen cycle.

Again, I don't know what it was or wasn't, but what was shown has definetly been possible to do real-time. The pictures Gunny showed in his comparison are much like what the CryEngine2 is capable of, but you will need next gen hardware to run it smoothly.
And that's where the game companies cheat, they don't tell you if what you see is running on the latest prototype from nVidia with DX11 and Pixel Shader 5.0 or whatever.

Dude, you'd have a better case saying that Killzone was a better GAME overall than Gears than trying to say it held a candle graphically. The textures, environments, etc... it's not even fair. The only people that'd say it is better *graphically are little sony fanboys like yourself that'll defend anything ps3 related to the death.

Even the new screen shots don't compare. The lighting looks great. The gun looks great- but still the fuzzy looking characters that have zero textures to them and look like cartoons.

Funny...you always defend the 360 to death. You must be a fan boy.

Look, I know you had no idea...like in most other things. But everyone knows Killzone 2 is the most graphically superior game currently around.

I'm not talking about making cut-scences. I'm talking about experiencing actual gameplay within the environmental detail, texture quality, the fluid animations, etc. that you can see on CGI videos.

Killzone 2 vs Gears 2 graphics debate...

I've only watched videos of both games, so I can't give a good opinion about that until I get to play them. I can say from the videos that Gears 2 graphics look improved over Gears 1, and I think most people will agree that Gears 1 had the best graphics seen on any console when that game was released.

However, there's no denying that Guerrilla has done a really impressive work with the Killzone 2 visuals - many gaming publications have already considered the game as one of the best looking games of this generation. So I don't see why it would be so crazy to believe that the Killzone 2 visuals could match or even surpass what Gears 2 has done.
