    Not sure what Thing you were watching.
    Yes the film Alien may be a bit more unnerving, but The Thing is also claustrophobic and terrifying..

    I watched both as a child but The Thing was more "whoa that is cool, ewww gross" than scary.

    No doubt the practical horror effects are unrivaled by pretty much any other film outside of maybe Society. I found it just slightly less claustrophobic than Alien and if you don't yet know who The Things is - there's some decent tension going.
    Acting goes to Alien but score to The Thing (Morricone is never a bad choice)..
