    Early 70's...

    I got a $5 allowance for mowing the yard, washing the cars, polishing dad's shoes for church, etc. Was told that $3 was to be put into the bank so I took my $2 and hit the local mini-mart and would pick up a Spiderman, Daredevil and Fantastic Four comic for 20¢ each. I could grab a few packs of baseball cards, a handful of bubble gum and have change left over.

    I still have most of the comics and cards.

    Parker was far more relatable to comic readers than Stark and for that reason was always the top draw for Marvel.

    Great story!
    I earned year-round lawn cash in Fl. - maybe 10 bucks a week. Bought loads of comics (which I wish I would kept - including that Spidey vs Superman giant scale issue) but I had discovered Famous Monsters Magazine and the other Warren pubs like Creepy and that took most of my money.

    And of course if you bought comics at 7/11 you were obliged to collect Slurpee Marvel cups. I freakin' LOVED these and had stacks of them.
    Thinking about it now, the Slurpee Cup collector's rage was about the closest thing to Marvel movie mania of today..
