For what it's worth, Bill Polian made a list of guys he would consider the best FAs. He breaks down the tiers:

A: $6-plus million AAV (annual average value), three-plus years in term and/or guaranteed money
B: $2 million to $6 million AAV, two years or fewer in term and/or guaranteed money
C: $2 million or less AAV, two years or fewer in term and/or guaranteed money
    D: Minimum salary, one-year contract

He has Verner rated as a B- while being the 56th best FA available. He also has six CBs ahead of him. Brent Grimes was rated higher as well, but he's off the market, so really it would have been seven guys rated higher.

Edit: He has Bernard Pollard rated a D. :biglaugh:

Polian is out of front office work for a reason. He's an idiot.

He had very few successful draft picks... Peyton was it. If he didn't have the #1 pick that year he would've been as big of a joke as Matt Millen.

I have heard this guy speak on ESPN. He is borderline clueless at this point in his career.

Like for reals? He helped guide the Bills to four Super Bowls. Helped get the Panthers to an NFC Championship game in two years of existence. Won a Super Bowl with the Colts and got to another.

I'd take that guy over anything this franchise has ever seen. Ever.

Well, damn. I did not know that.

But he sure as hell sounds stupid now. The game has changed a lot... maybe that's why.

I know Tom Moore was here for like half a season as an offensive senior advisor or something when Palmer got the axe. Not sure about Mudd.
