external hard drive for a dvr???

    a buddy of mine told me this last night but he doesnt know if it can really be done...just wonderin if anyone has tried it and made it work.

    so basically, i have time warner/comcast at home. have a scientific atlantic hd dvr with two usb plugs....he is telling me i can get an external hard drive, plug it in and record...then take it to my computer and burn the dvds...is this true???? anyone try it....thanks guys

    No. You need to hook your computer up to the dvr and use a recording program to copy from the dvr to an external hard drive.

    a recording program like??? i am guessing you dont mean windows media

    No. I use a mac. The program I use is called Virtual VCR. Try searching around here. You should be able to find multiple programs to choose from; many of them free.
