    dogs whos ears do not naturally stand up (German Shepherd) usually have their ears clipped. Its pretty common in pitbulls and dobermans.

    I am not a fan of it, I think it is inhuman, but not everyone feels the same way.

    I think it is more of a cultural thing, and in a bad way.

    I am pretty sure it extends from dog fighting/intimidation factor. While they do look more intimidating, a doberman is going to tear you apart regardless of its ears.

    Really no point in doing it to my knowledge unless you fight your dog. I know some dogs do get their tails clipped for hygenic reasons, but from my experience it is largely unnecessary. Not trying to get the thread off topic, so if it needs to go to that we can open up another thread.

    oh- Some dogs are prone to ear infections if their ears droop like that, but it usually only happens if you don't treat your dog right after they jump in a pond or something.
