He's too busy counting his new money UT just gave him...
I guess that's what I get for not reading the Tittyseean 24/7
I haven't read that rag in years...
Andrew Scott will probably be the new coach. Thank god Pearl is a no. He played UT like a fiddle though, gotta give him that.
"We didn't want Pearl anyway" - Memphis fans.....
He'd be better than practically anyone else on the market, but if I was Pearl I wouldn't leave an SEC team for a Memphis team that just lost a ton of committments. The allure of Memphis was gone as soon as Calipari sold out. Pearl should stay in TN and keep building, UT will be better than Memphis in probably 2 years. I hope Cali fails at Kentucky, i hate sellouts.
Why wouldn't you take Memphis over UT if you were a BASKETBALL coach?
1. Memphis is a basketball school/town.
2. UT has and probably will always suck @ basketball.
3. Pearl would be THE COACH at Memphis.
4. Pearl is 3rd on the list @ UT. Behind Pat and Kiffin.
Of course. There are at least 5 better options, and they don't paint themselves nor go brain dead to close games.
Cal makes Pearl look like an amateur when it comes to coaching, and that's terrible.
I'd be happy with either.
The easy answer is UT is much more awesome than Memphis, and Knoxville is way better city than Memphis.
I've had some fun in Memphis, but I would NEVER want to live there.
Bruce Pearl is already loved in Knoxville as well. I'm not sure he gets anywhere near that kind of treatment from people in Memphis. The bar is higher for one thing, and there would be tremendous expectations to succeed immediately.
And the main reason: $ $ bill yo.
Let's see. Memphis is in a mid-major conference. Without Calipari-like coach, it loses all allure. Thus the reason they are being turned down by coaches left and right...for less money. They have very limited TV exposure. They are on TV nationally a couple of times before conference and then dissappear. Getting Calipari was lucky. Job opens and Cal needed to take a job to get back into the game. He played Memphis like a drum. Laughably low buyout and the silly "if Cal leaves, the players can opt out of the LOI".
As far as Pearl being third, right now he is making more overall per year than both Summit and Kiffin. TV exposure is MUCH better at UT than Memphis.
