Looks like the cheapest deal out there, but I thought I read it was only a so-so player. Not sure what makes it so-so, I wouldn't know how to compare two different hd dvd players. I think it does 1080p? Can anyone share some experience with it?

I have it, but honestly I couldn't tell you much about it. I just know that it works great and the HD DVD's look amazing. I had a best buy gift certificate so I bought it.

    - you can launch movies from the xbox control board
    - you don't lose any usb connections because of it
    - resolution seems a lot better with it

    That's about all I know.

    hold up .....

aren't you still in the market for a 360 ?
now you after an HD-DVD too ?
    and a friggin SXRD?
    :ha:
I hope they all get in your house - you'll love it

iirc: the HD-DVD will output 1080p ..... with a caveat
    i believe HDMI is needed
and the set needs to be able to process and display 1080p

good deal ? yes and no
if you already own a 360 and want to jump into HD video, then the HD-DVD add-on is dirt cheap for $169 (+ 5 free movies)
but, like all things Microsoft, it's bound to have 'some' problems

If you really want a nice console and a kick *** DVD player and don't plan on playing alot of games, the Ps3 might be worth a look
the Ps3 combo and the SXRD are an excellent combo
    BluRay looks fantastic
but (for some unknown reason) unstable framerates are issues
and you're going to miss out on
    Bioshock (for the moment)
    Halo 3
    Gears of War
    and Mass Effect
    (among others)

    Thanks Phi.

Yeah Puck, I occasionally try to bling bling :))

I think you're right about the HDMI. As long as I get a new 360 with the HDMI out, I can watch the HD DVD's on the 360's hd dvd player through the HDMI connection to the SXRD TV (if that's what I get).

For the price, it looks like it can't be beat. I'm not hardcore into gaming now or movies, so if there's a problem with either, waiting for MS to fix it may not annoy me too much....but hopefully they've got the problems fixed anyway.

I want a PS3, but I may wait till prices bottom out....and that may be awhile.

As a side note, how are these old movies being released to HD DVD or Blue Ray? Pretty sure I saw some really old ones, but not sure how they can make the picture quality that much better. Seems like they'd have to be filmed with the latest technology.

    Isn't a PS3 cheaper than a 360 with the HD-DVD add on?

Yes, but I want the 360 more. Plus it looks like HD DVD has the early lead.

I read it was something like 2 or 3 to 1 in favor of HD DVD.

the tables are flipping now (so they say)
]the thing BR has going for it is Disney and Blockbuster

other than that, it really all depends on the movies you like
