Anyone else concerned about the lack of Speed?

I know you are talking offensively and I agree they need get better and faster on the ends but I think the team speed is better this year than it was last year. Just in one summer JRob has been able to improve that with some of the guys he has drafted and signed. Guys like Dodd bring tremendous speed and athleticism and will only help that part of the team. Even if they don't become great, they will increase the overall team speed just by being out there. It reminds me a lil bit of what John Schneider did in Seattle. He brought in a bunch of freakish fast athletes and not all of them are great. But as a collective group, they are pretty great because they are so fast. Give John another offseason or two and he will have something similar here. I really do think he gets it and understands it.

We had two wrs that were good deep threats and ran good seep routes and now we dont cause we shipped them away.

 

DGB, maybe... but that still remains to be seen. We had no others that were deep threats.

 

Mm is his best throwing short and mid range throws, so speed isn't as important when building around him. Having a group of wrs that can catch and get open is way more important than a guy with elite speed. Walker, mathews, johnson, sharpe, douglas and fasano all fit that mold. Add in our running game (2 top 20 backs, imo) and theses wrs are all going to be in 1 on 1 situations. All they have to do is beat thier guy, because the box will be stacked most of the time.

 

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember Pitt having great speed on D when Lebeau was the DC. Ryan Clark use to get burnt a lot, so did Troy did the def. backfield. With or without speed, Lebaeu will dial up enough packages to rattle Hill tomorrow.
Sidebar: As log as Cox is on the field and Blake is off, I am not overly concerned.
