I was mistaken. Georgia wasn't a top 10 D, they were ranked 29th which is still not bad but you're right, not elite. He did however go 16/23 for 241 yards (69.6 comp %) and a TD against the #1 defense in the country, Alabama. Not a bad performance at all vs such an elite D. He also had a pretty solid game against Florida's #5 over all D which probably had the #1 secondary in the country. He didn't exactly wow you with the stats ( 9/17 152 yards 3 drops 2 pass interferences, 1 which would've been a TD) and the game plan appeared to be to run the ball with Hill but he managed the game very well (0 picks) and managed to make some great throws, and show a decent ability to work the pocket. Even better they won that game 17-6. He might not be some elite prospect but the kid can play and has all the tools.

Locker may not start week one but I do not see much chance of Mettenberger starting. He tore his ACL in November and is a rookie. He will probably start the year on the PUP list.

That will be so incredibly brutal if we have Whitehurst as our starting QB in week 1.... ouch.

Better chance of that than Mettenberger.

I've seen every throw he attempted at LSU.... I'm thrilled with this pick. He's o-line was awful his junior year and much better last year. Cam Cameron did wonders for him and he picked up the offense very quickly.

    Here's my personal assessment:

He has a cannon for an arm
    High football IQ
Very solid pocket presence- Very good slider in the pocket. Bad feet part is true but so does Brady (oh god settle down I'm not saying he is Tom Brady but only an example of a good slider in the pocket with bad feet)
Good accuracy (I've heard the others question his accuracy and I don't know where that comes from. He was actually plagued by drops. Beckham was the worst offender).

This is a sixth round pick. It's all positive. I don't think he can recover from the ACL and challenge this year. But he can challenge for the job next season.

And I'm sure this has been posted already but I didn't feel like reading all 20 pages...

probably so. I would tune in to watch to see how Mettenberger does. It's always exciting to see a rookie QB. Whitehurst.. nah. Neither are likely to ever be starting caliber, IMO.

Your assessment is on point but I would argue his receivers helped him much more than they hurt him. He gave them the opportunity to make great plays on the ball with accurate throws but they caught a lot of balls and made a lot of plays that very few NCAA receivers would have. The only real flaws I see in his game is he tends stare guys down a bit a doesn't throw the deep ball well despite his really strong arm. I find that much like Locker he tends to overthrow a lot of his deep throws. Nothing that can't be addressed. I'm more excited about this pick and most of the other we made.

Yes, let me clarify, his receivers were definitely NOT a problem. But rather a strength. I only mentioned the drops because I was trying to figure out where the inaccuracy label came from. Beckham is a great WR but he dropped some easy one as times. I felt Jarvis Landry was the better WR even though no scout agrees with me. And you are right, his deep is not great but I think it's better than Locker's (when he came out). I thought he got better with the stare down under Cameron as well. Best case scenario is that Locker shines and he is holding a clipboard for a few years... but this a tremendous value at this spot.

Correct on all counts. I really like this guy. If he fails due to a lack of skills then I just don't know what a stud QB is supposed to look like cause he seems to have the goods.

If Locker is healthy, he starts day one. And it's unlikely he gets hurt in camp or pre season. I don't know what to tell you if you think there's a chance a healthy Locker rides the bench week 1

As for Mett, he can definitely make all the throws. Has to work on some things but he's excellent value in the 6th
