How many pictures do you want me to post? The limit is 4 pictures per post.

Soccer is not a contact sport. You get penalized for making contact and you get penalized for pretending contact was made. Sure, every so often someone takes a hard lick, but that's not part of the game. Every once in a while baseball players collide. Is baseball a contact sport?

That shot Howard took was WEAK! NFL players take worse than that on every single play, not once a game.

I'm not saying Soccer is for sissies, but it is not a contact sport and you don't have to be tough to play it. You just have to be poor and bored, or a pseudo-intellectual, pretentious American.:grrhee:

10.6 million viewers for the usa match on ESPN. 1.6 million online. Amazing totals there for a record for a sporting event.

Most online and mobile viewers of a sporting event ever.

And for TV crazy too. "Viewership for the first three U.S. games at the World Cup is up 68 percent compared to the first three U.S. games in 2006, Nielsen said."

We haven't even gotten to the good matches yet. This is just the beginning. ABC predicitng more records for Saturday.

You mean soccer isn't a collision sport like football. Every sport has some form of contact otherwise it'd all be called chess.

A football cleat to the chest without pads doesn't compare to an NFL hit behind protection. Not even close. But no, soccer is not normally a collision sport.

But if you really want to make this a stupid competition about which sport is the manliest based on contact then you should choose something other than football. Rugby is football without all the sissy pads, all the sissy timeouts and commercial breaks, and the sissy 40 second breather between plays.

This is just a silly argument. Soccer's a great sport. It gets more popular every year in the US. If it's not manly enough for you then, fine. Of course, 7 of the top 10 ranked WAGs have gone for footballers - so apparently it's manly enough to attract the women. Isn't that the best measure of manliness? :wink2:

10 million doesn't sound like that much at all. Less than a typical monday night football game.

i like how you guys think people will like soccer just cause of it's ratings!

news flash! people dont care about the soccer, this is a hard time in the US and people just want to cheer for America for any reason.

soon as the US is knocked out of the Cup, you wont hear much else about soccer in the states.

You have no idea what you're talking about. It IS part of the game. A tackle is legal as long as you go for ball. That's CONTACT. You're taking someone's legs out to get a ball basically.

I wont even begin even trying to speak about the battle in the box on a corner kick...

It's cool if you've never watched it. Just say so.

If basketball is a contact sport- soccer definitely is. (and basketball is a contact sport)

I think you just made the case for how impressive the 10 million is. Thanks. MNF has no competition for viewership. While the World cup match competed against people going to their job and working. That is what made this number so impressive. A first round match, with people working, and still 10 million. Absolutly amazing draw and we are not even to the 2nd round of the tournament. Saturday will be huge.
