My mother had a phobia of parallel parking, no matter how often I tried to explain the simple rules of successfully parallel parking she would just freeze up. Otherwise she was a decent enough driver, never got a ticket and never got in an accident. I think some people just choke because of the very public nature of completing the maneuver on a busy city street.
