    If he is elite he gets paid like an elite player, not an average Joe.

    That’s the point. You would cut some average Joe’s to afford the elite player.

    It isn't that simple. Most of our "average joes" are still valuable players. So you're making large holes in other areas to retain 1 elite player. Depending on the player and the roster situation and the position he plays, maybe that's the right call. So the question is, is it better to have 2-3 above average starters or one elite starter.
