If we are smart we will put some read option plays in the play book but not make it the focus of our offense. Just run it enough to keep the defense guessing and having to prepare for it. Then use it in the game when we think it will work. Basically you run the RB a few times to get a feel what the DE or OLB is doing. If he is coming down hard to stop the run you have Locker make the read and keep the ball a few times. The 49ers did it all game against the Packers and they never figured it out.

On the other hand we don't need that to be our main offense. Locker isn't going to last long doing that and he is better throwing the ball vertically on roll outs and boot legs and sing his running ability when he can get yardage but get out of bounds.

I think the VY experience influenced them on Locker. VY had talent but was a poor leader and was a major head case. With Locker pick they seemed to make charactor, leadership ability, competativeness, etc. a qualifier. Which I can understand. QBs are under a ton of stress. We see many come out like gangbusters but then as soon as things start to go sideways they cannot handle it. You need a QB who can handle failure and bounce back. VY could not. Just like Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, Cade McNown, JP Lossman. They see Locker as someone who is likely able to handle the stress of failure. Also as someone who will put the work in which VY did not do.

And unlike Cam Newton and Andy Dalton, people like being around Jake Locker.

I don't dislike Cam at all for trying to make a buck, NCAA should compensate these guys, or at least let them make some money off their own pictures and autographs.

I can see memorabilia like jerseys, autographs, pictures, ect. but not pay to play money. Thats what the scholarship they earned is. Normal non scholarship students pay out the ass for an education they get a degree for free or a fraction of a cost, that is pay enough.

If I understand correctly the 49ers run a Read option offense and they seem to be doing just fine. I think the lack of OL play for the redskins is what is holding them back and getting rg3 injured.

I like that offense a lot. I think Jake would excel in it but we def need OL play first.

Concept is simple, gives power O for Kaep and edge to the RB... Post snap read... Find hole.

I don't like jake running the ball very much tho... I could see us teasing this a little bit but I wouldn't want it to be a large staple.

Everyone realizes Jake got hurt trying to make a tackle right... Not like his shoulder came out from taking a hit or anything, he was all kinds of goofy looking trying to make that tackle. That's not going to happen like that again.

Yes he will likely try running down a DB that picks him off, but I mean the way he got hurt is 1 in a million.
