Seriously though, Craig Stevens is no Lorenzo Neal.

of course not, its impossible for two separate people to be one individual person.

If we are going to worry about over paid players look at Wimbley and Mccourty making $6M a year.

We are paying a career backup $3.5M a year on the defensive line.

We all know the reason you like Craig Stevens is because he is white and you are racist.

I made a post a about this when we signed him again. He is an average guy that is on the street everyday! I hear how he is a great blocker but I never see him doing it. He gets open and makes a catch or two because he is wide open because no one covers him! Add up his career catch total minus what he is being paid and Bud needs refund!

If we cut Craig Stevens, who else are we gonna play at tight end?

Walker? The guy who hasn't played a down for us, has never been a starting TE, has questions about his blocking abilities and a severe case of stone hands? mk guys.

TT? The defensive end converted tight end, who was sporadic at best last season? mk guys.

Doyle? The guy who will be on our practice squad in 3 weeks? mk guys.

Stevens has always been solid for us. He may not be a game changing star, but he gets it done and won't hurt the team with poor play. I'm excited for Walker, but we absolutely need to keep Stevens. I'm surprised this is such a popular thread.

Him getting 2.5m is really about right. Please don't forget that with the new CBA, dedicated veterans get their dues - instead of rookies becoming ga-jillionaries overnight....

Also, as far as i can remember, he's been a real 'pro' in how he handles himself on and off the field. He doesn't get in trouble with the law or coaches, he's always there to practice, and he goes hard. He's been a stud in terms of blocking throughout his career, maybe a hold more than I'd like, but still you can't argue with him there.

The funny thing is that he also catches almost everything thrown his way - in fact he's actually made some impressive grabs over the past 3 years - like balls I'd never thought he'd catch, he's been able to reel them in. Thing is he was never really featured in the offense and rarely gets a pass his way, Cook (along with Britt and Nate back in the day) were too busy dropping them...

While players like Stevens aren't raking in top dollar (nor should they be) I think he is getting what he deserves. Again, Stevens has ALMOST ALWAYS been solid for us in what we ask him to do. A solid veteran TE now gets about 2-3M a year, plain and simple (don't forget elite TEs get, like what, 6-8M a year? thats a huge diff...)

    Finnebosch I am vengeance.

Stevens is a decent player but he is being paid like a top 15 TE and he just is not that guy. Jason Witten has the 10th highest cap hit of any TE ay 4.353 million and he only makes a little more then 800k then Stevens.

This will be Stevens last year with us has Walker is our fist string guy and Thompson is already ready to handle our blocking TE duties. We will save more then 4 million dollars cutting Stevens and we need to start shaving money off of our salary cap to make room for re-signing guys like Morgan, Ayers, and Brown.

I don't remember his deal. But if he's getting just 2.5M flat per year, that makes sense. If that 2.5 number goes up, then that might be too much. Also, if his stats and numbers remain as low as they are, I can see us restructuring his deal....

But as RockyTop said, we simply can't cut the guy until Walker proves himself and/or TT matures...
