But I don't see that as a fault of CJ. It's a fault of the coaching staff. CJ didn't aim to instill this run-first identity, or design run schemes, or call the plays, or bring in inept personnel. He can only do so much from his position.CJ's level of play has dropped, but he still has tremendous talent and ability. We showed we can run the ball at times on the 49ers, but we had to throw being so far behind. He has also shown he still has big play ability.

The coaches need to stop forcing a square peg through a round hole and cater their scheme to their players. As CJ's game has changed, so should the plays run for him. Looking at the big picture of our offensive woes it seems unreasonable to single out any one player.

Do you think Packers fans would say (in regards to Rodgers) "well, it's okay that he's only throwing for 150 yards a game and 0 TDs against elite teams because he'll thrash the Jags"?

No... if you're paid top 5 at your position, it better not matter who you play on Sundays. You better bring it every game and do something.

I know... I would cut him, but I'd just be worried that Houston would pick him up, and he'd be unstoppable behind that OL.

I doubt he would go anywhere in the AFC South.

HOU is about to be in cap hell, plus they have Foster and Tate to work out. Both of which are younger I think.....

Jags aren't going to dump MJD to sign CJ, and I doubt CJ would go to a team that weak.

    Indy couldn't/wouldn't need him.

For CJ's sake, he should see if he can get on a team with an elite QB... though it seems like most of them have options at RB now. Moreno in DEN, Lacy in GB, Ridley in NE, etc.

Well, there's the Saints... they could still use a starting RB.

Just in case this argument is still going:

McCoy runs like a running back should.

    CJ doesn't.

    The end.

Through 7 games we have gotten CJ the ball in space twice. He scored both times. He is not being used the way he should be.

It would be except that he has produced a decent amount against tough defenses already but gets no credit for it. He racked up 96 yards on a Houston defense that even right now is rated the #1 D in the league as far as total defense goes. Pittsburgh is #6 and he got 70 yards there even while splitting carries with 2 other backs. The 9ers are ranked 8th and if we hadn't stopped trying to run the ball (it was the right call) I think it's reasonable to assume he would have had at least a respectable game since he had 40+ yards on like 9 carries. He laid an egg vs the Jets, Seahawks, and arguably the Chiefs (he had that big TD catch and run though). He had Fitz at QB for both KC and Seattle and vs the Jest their gameplan was to make Locker beat them.

Like I said, he hasn't set the world on fire but he hasn't been nearly as bad as fans on here make it out to be. I'm not shocked he doesn't have any TD's since every time we get into scoring range we either try to pass or give it to Jackie Battle. CJ's first rushing TD is gonna have to be from like 40+ yards out.

I'm sure you guys will just call these excuses but not everything is always an excuse, sometimes the reasons given are valid.

just to point out the perhaps somwhat obvious - the poll question says who is our best weapon. It seems like most everyone here is debating who is our most productive/best player.

In my opinion they are two totally different questions and result in two totally different answers.

So the question being what it is - I'll use the analogy with our military. Our best weapon (that we know about) is probably some nuclear missile - which doesn't get used often/ever. CJ is our bet weapon who also doesn't get used often/properly.

hence me voting that CJ is our best weapon, because he is - our coaches, in my opinion, just have no idea how to maximize his talents (maybei it'll happen soon after what's happened to Griff this year).

That being said - let's let the season pan out and see what happens with our easier post by schedule.
