And how long did you own a PC before you got Internet?

I owned my first PC in 1997 and got AOL Dial Up at the same time. it was so awesome. spent countless hours on AOL Chat Rooms..

I got my first computer back in 1995. It was an Apple, I used to play Oregon Trail on it like it was going out of style. In color too, it was F'in awesome.

Then I got a Gateway PC in 1997, used free AOL for a couple years until DSL came along. Those AOL chat rooms got me laid so many times, it was great.

Got my first computer around 83 I think. It was a Commodore 64. I first got online in 85 or 86. There sure wasn't much internet back in those days. We just dialed in to a local bulletin board system. My buddy and I hacked it and got kicked off.

I'm a geek from way back. :tj:

I believe it was 1988. My company at the time was doing a field test and issued primitive laptops to a few field sales guys. Don't remember the brand, but it had an orange screen display and a whopping huge hard drive of about 10mb. Also used 5 1/4" floppy's. You dialed up the company mainframe and downloaded data and messages, in turn it uploaded data and messages to you. Games were on disks if you could afford them.

There really wasn't an internet in those days available to the general public.

Got my first mobile phone at the same time. They installed an Audiovox in my car. The thing was a full size phone mounted on the floor and hardwired to a bunch of hardware in the trunk.....which was connected via hardwire to a spiral antenna on the roof. Darn thing cost the company $1300 back then.

I bought one of my high school's "hand me down" Radio Shack TRS 80s in 1984....complete with tape deck drive, for $100. I was quite the BASIC programmer back then. When I was in college my fraternity owned one PS-2 computer that we shared to write lab formals and other reports. When I graduated and went to work my company had one 386 that was shared among 13 different employees, and I did not get my own work computer until 1992. None of these systems accessed the internet or email.

After that I did not actually own a personal computer (to use online) until 1993. My first internet service was Prodigy (remember that?), and it literally took 10 minutes to get to the start up screen.

I refused to have a cell phone until 1999 (had a pager until then)....now I have a laptop and blackberry...

    Boy am I old...

Back in the mid 90s, I had a Tandy Trash(TRS) 80 laptop with the dual floppies in the front. My first modern computer... was a Compaq Presario 166Mhz Pentium Processor w/ MMX technology, 33.6 Modem, 4 GB Hard Drive, 16x CD Rom, 64MB of RAM w/ AOL Free Trial! I remember the day, Dec 23rd 1997
