Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky

What I think they're thinking in the Jacksonville Jaguars headquarters this afternoon:

That was a struggle, from start to finish. In 2007 we got a feeling for what NFL life is like when just about everything goes right. This year we got a feel for what it's like when just about everything goes wrong.

There may be enough key quality people here for us to build around, but we have a lot of work to do and it starts with the lines. We've got to assess every offensive and defensive lineman we've got, every free agent to-be and every draft prospect and load up on quality people who can be productive and quality depth that can step in not if, but when, they are needed.

Outsiders will ask and debate whether that one playoff win a year ago in Pittsburgh wound up putting us in handcuffs with the big contract extensions for Jack Del Rio and David Garrard.

Those deals mean they're here and we've got to make it work with them. That means we've got to have more playmakers on defense for Del Rio to have the sort of team that fits him. That means we have to have better support and weaponry for Garrard, who needs for most everything around him to go right in order to play his best.

Those are tall orders for our new GM Gene Smith and Del Rio to get to work on. That's why they make the big bucks.

Next year the Jags have to fight their way through Indy twice, Nashville twice and up and coming Houston twice. They were picked to take the AFC South this year and might be at the bottom of the South in 2009. Maybe they can claim a rebuilding year and hope for the best.
Have they got anything to trade for Vince?
