VY 10 pass attempts video. Judge for yourself

    Well a lot of people have already made up their mind about Young, on both sides of the fence, so I fear it's pointless to try to have an objective discussion about the actual quality of play.

    From watching that video I feel Young had 2 bad throws, the INT and the first scramble throw to Washington. The rest were definetly catchable.

    Are you blind? LenDale was standing straight up when he turned to catch that pass. He was not bent over in the slightest. Vince also has a lineman about a step and a half in front of him when he had to throw that...a second early because of the defender in his face I might add.
    The only thing LW had to do out of the ordinary was twist his upper body to catch it. Since Vince had to get rid of it early, LW may not have been expecting it so soon. Sorry, that play wasn't Vince's fault.

    Gunny, the pass looked like it would have hit LW in the midsection...around the belt buckle area. It was quite catchable, but I don't think LW expected it that soon. Vince just had to get rid of it. Look at the vid again and notice the DE in Vince's face pretty much.

    Why is the only issue accuracy? What about the reads he is making and the fact he can't seem to complete a pass longer than 10 yards?


    The pass to lendale was catchable but given the short distance and the person you are throwing to that is not a good throw. The pass to henry also catchable but you need to put more touch on that ball. Vince plays like a nervous rookie getting the ball out too fast and looking for dump off type passes.

    His 5 pass completions were about 5 yards downfield on average and created only 39 total yards. 3.9 yards per pass attempt is just not good enough in a league where better QBs are average 2X that.

    Thanks for posting this. It sounded like you were making a smoothie towards the end. ;)

    Watching it again hasn't changed my mind about anything. Young continues to not be accurate on passes which should be no-brainers. The two to the RBs should have been caught but neither pass was where it should have been, and, even if caught, probably would not have been as productive after the catch because both would have to turn their body, adjust, etc. instead of pulling in an accurate pass in stride.

    The INT is impossible to judge but the defender who made the pick would have lit up Hawkins if he ran the proper route because it appears, to me, he read Young on the play and the pass gave him plenty of time to move to the ball. He even has to wait on the thing to come to him.

    The short ball to Hawkins does appear that he rounded off that route and should have come back to Young. He was covered so Young put the ball where it probably needed to be. On the next one, the defender jumped the pass and made a play.

    The TD was probably one of the better passes he's made. Ever.

    We've beaten this performance to death but I see this as no different than what I am seeing at training camp in that Young remains inconsistent. He makes a nice pass followed by two which may be caught but are inaccurate and kills any chance for yardage after the catch or are thrown in the turf at someone's feet incomplete.

    More alarming is that Young still seems to stare down a receiver but I didn't see as much hesitation. I thought he looked more comfortable in the pocket as he has at camp.

    I'm pulling for the guy but he's a tease. I see improvement but nothing close to where a professional QB entering his fourth season should be. I'm also beginning to think he's lost all confidence which will kill any QB's game.
