BTW, Billy was never offered a starting job. He was offered backup positions, or the chance to compete at best.

Our front office is a mess. Why wasnt Collins brought in before camp? And why at this point is Volek not been traded? Even if we only get a 4th or 5th round pick, it is certainly more than we could get next year for a 3rd sting QB.

Rumour is San Diego want him, however as SK mentioned why trade a player to a team you are going to play in a few weeks.

Why not? We are more or less a team that is down in the same category as the Texans and 49ers, and we are concerned about trading our emergency QB? If he remains as our # 3 then after this season he is going to be cut, because nobody is going to give up anything for a veteran 3rd sting Qb. Take what we can get. Collins should have been brought in before camp and they should have competed, and if Volek lost he should have been dealt. But I dont think a 3rd string Qb sitting behind a guy brought in a week before the season, and a rookie is going to have a whole lot of trade value. We probably wouldnt have got much for him anyway, but something is better than nothing, Reese blew it and he needs to be on a short leash.

concerned of trading Volek and the playbook to a team we play in 2 weeks.

It is smart management, no matter if your a playoff calibre team or not. You dont give any team the upper hand. Trade him after the San Diego team (i forgot to mention that)

BTW season hasnt even started yet, we may yet surprise some teams. who knows, stranger things have happened

SD may have no interest in a couple of weeks, and if they do they certainly arent going to give as much as they would have earlier in pre season. Bringing your starting QB in a week before the season just makes no sense what so ever. If management would get it together they would have brought him in before camp, and then traded Volek during camp or early in the preseason.

so what if we get no interest for Volek? If Collins goes down, he'd be the starter.

you still dont send a QB and essentially a playbook to a team your playing next week.
    it is just ridiculous.

We just got through cutting a zillion players that know the playbook and many have wound up with other teams we will be playing. Secondly, this is our second year of running this offense, so its not like its a big secret what kind of offense we run. I can understand keeping him in case Collins goes down, but I still think this whole situation was handled poorly. If Collins had been brought in before preseason then I think we would have had a lot of options on the table concerning Volek and could have possibly got decent value for him in a trade.
