I've been a light smoker for some time. Ten years ago I would say my habit was heavy but the past few years I have really cut back and I have had my bouts... and I've had small measures of success but I'm on a roll now. After several one, two or three cigarette days I've been smoke free 100% since Sunday. That's 3+ days and I feel like I'm going strong.

If you have a quit story or know of one... or have lost a loved one to smoking related illness or know someone who is killing themselves mercilessly... share the story here. I'm proud of my progress but I could use some inspiration to draw on. I've wanted to be without cigarettes for some time. I just have never had the courage to do it 100%. In 6 months time I become 30 years of age.

It would be nice to reach that milestone a non-smoker.

    also...

any thoughts on recent changes to Tennessee law regarding smoking in the workplace and out in restaurants, bars, public, etc? Does anyone fully understand the law changes? I don't. I hope it's implemented in my workplace. It will make things easier on me. Anyone know what constitutes non-compliance and the penalties and so forth?

please share thoughts on anything tobacco related...

even if you are a farmer...

Congratulations Jay. You're already done with the hardest part. Craves don't ever completely go away, but they get less and less frequent and much less intense.

If you could handle yesterday, you can definitely handle today. I've handled 434 of them so far.

Is that the reason for the toothpicks? or is it just a thing you do?

Yeah, I chew on toothpicks when I get the urge for a dip. I've also chewed gum, hard candy, sunflower seeds, etc.

The wife found me some great toothpicks at a health food store recently that are dipped in cinnamon oil. The flavor on them lasts a good while. They are actually called Australian Chewing Sticks or something like that.

Ya know, I actually wondered that myself! According to their website, they are located at "Pacific Highway, Ballina NSW 2478, AUSTRALIA"

    Well it sounds authentic.

Though I never even heard of flavoured chewing toothpicks

I was a "Big Dipper". Started in college. Probably a can every 2-3 days. And this went on for probably 15 years (no, I didn't go to college for 15 years :) ).

I thought the risks were minimal to smoking until I saw a show on the dangers and some horrifying case studies. With some early-warning issues of my own, and a newborn I wanted to be around to see grow up, I went cold turkey.

I don't know if kicking the habit for smokeless is any easier than cigarettes as I get the urge every time I am outdoors for any length of time. But it's been about 10 years since I've dipped.

Ballina is exactly the sort of place that would manufacture flavoured toothpicks. A lot of alternate lifestyles in that part of Australia.

Here are a couple of good commercials to help with your conviction:
