If a team drafts LVE early and then asks him to become an edge rusher, it'll wind up a huge mistake

It sounds like if we dont draft LVE we could be making a big eschape.

Because he's an ILB. He has 0 experience playing EDGE. Ppl are projecting that based on his measurables? Some of his best assets are his ability to read the game from LB spot. He has the instincts for it. He's a pure LB.

I'm not a fan of spending a top 20 pick on a guy and then asking him to play something he's never played before. Its dumb.

 

He has elite everything and OLB isn't hard to learn

 

He won't be there at 25, so someone else will have to teach him.

I agree with ImATitan. I can definitely see him as a 4-3 OLB, but never strictly as an edge rusher.

 

43 LB would be the biggest waste for that guy

Look at a lot of the elite 34 OLBs, a lot weren't OLBs in college

It's a premium position, sometimes you have to build the next best one

How many successful NFL pass rushers weren't pass rushers in college? There are many who transitioned from a 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB, but I really can't think of anyone who went from an off-ball linebacker to an edge player. He'll still get plenty of shots at the QB, but I don't know if he will ever be good enough to offset the loss of his value in other areas on defense to be an edge player alone. Anthony Barr is similar from a physical and athletic standpoint, and he's currently a 4-3 OLB.

 

everything you said, but now relate it to Dodd trying to transfer from a DL to an OLB. it's baffled me no one else gets this.
