I am not that excited about the DE prospects in the draft that will be available by the time we pick, although admittedly I have not done enough HW. I think we should be able to pick up a quality DE in free agency that would want to play on the same line with AH and KVB. I agree that we probably won't get Odom back, but it better be because we prioritize spending elsewhere and not that we are cheap, because we have plenty of money.

It doesnt matter who plays over there as long as Haynesworth and KVB are playing. The way those two bust up the line alot of other DE's would shine. Nothing worth breaking the bank over.
Can anyone imagine the dominance of our line given a signing of Jared Allen.
Vanden Bosch, Haynesworth and Allen all on a line. We could cut everyone else and win games, I mean NO quarterback can throw TD's from his back.

I disagree with this entirely. Admittedly Odom didn't see a lot of double teams, but he consistently beat his man and there were times when he fought through a double team and still got pressure.

On this team, Defensive End IS worth breaking the bank over (more so than any defensive position). We need 3 top tier DEs and anyone thinking we can replace the production of Odom and LaBoy with a draft choice and Jacob Ford is dreaming. Hope is not a strategy.

Alex Brown is the speed rushing version of Odom. Both get in the QBs faces, but they dont get as many sacks as they could. I would rather have Odom, even though Brown is about 5x more athletic.

  6. Odom is a good DE and we don't have anybody to replace him. If he doesn't ask for anything insane, we'll probably re-sign him. If he does ask for too much he'll probably hit the market and we'll need a replacement. But there isn't much to replace him with short of using our 1st round pick on a DE. There aren't any quality free agents who won't get franchised and the best of the rest will get way overpaid.

As for LaBoy, I'd let him go. He's a pass rushing specialist with concussion problems and not worth a big contract. If he gets no takers on the market and is willing to sign a relatively cheap contract then I'd consider bringing him back, but that's the only scenario. But we drafted Jacob Ford to fill his role last year so I can see letting LaBoy go.

if we dont have to break the bank i think we should bring odom back..but if he wants big time free agent money then he needs to walk.. odom would be dumb to leave b/c he is on that dline with 2 of the best defensive players in the nfl and that gives him a chance to do alot more and look better..
