Thomas jones would have been an ufa after the 2007 season. Then he would be gone and the bears would have nothing for him. Jones wanted an extension but for money the bears could not afford. They trade jones and a 63rd pick becomes a 37th pick.

The bears could not afford to keep both benson and jones so they got what they could for the older player and yes they have to risk that their high draft choice can deliver. Welcome to the nfl! The salary cap? Have you heard about that? Jones agreed to a 4 year $20M deal with the jets with a $12M signing bonus!

Some times you have to take risks that younger players can get the job done. Just like the titans are relying on young Wrs to replace bennett. Benson played well last season so they are going with him.

 

No the Bears aren't "trying" to dismantle" anything. They are trying to move players a positions of depth where they think they have young quality players to take over which gives them more CAP room to focus on other postions of need (like maybe signing Briggs to a long term contract). It is called managing a team.

Maybe you should try putting as much effort into making initial points as you do rebutting. Your initial points are pretty pointless.

I think the titans are willing to give a 4th, maybe even a 3rd i don't know but it comes down to contract. I wouldn't change a thing about his contract he makes $3M a year and too bad if he doesn't think it is enough.

Without a new deal is he going to sulk and suck? Forget it then.
