Successful NFL coaches don't dart for the NCAA. I can't recall even one instance of that happening. Only way he considers going to the college level is if he gets canned here. But considering his success thus far, if he gets canned here, he will likely find another NFL HC job within a year or two. He's already fared better than probably 90% of all NFL HC hires in the last 20 years.

It's also worth noting that JRob took over literally the worst team in the league and almost completely purged the entire roster within 2 years. If I recall correctly, I think less than 10 players from the previous regime were still on the roster at the beginning of 2017. So the success we've seen can almost be entirely attributed to the players acquired under J-Rob. And I think only like 5 were on the roster in 2018. The remaining players from the past regime to stay on the roster are Lewan and Kern.

Fisher was a solid coach. His problem is that he didn't adapt as the NFL landscape was changing. It started becoming a significantly more pass happy league in the mid 2000's. But he was still stuck in the old school style of football. Play defense, run the ball, and playing super conservative with a lead became a very ineffective way to win football games as guys like Peyton, Brady, and Brees were throwing it 30-40 times a game and could score extremely quick. You've got to be more creative on offense to keep up with those type of offenses, and he quite clearly wasn't interested in changing.

He basically got fired. The 49ers said it was mutual, but according to Harbaugh it wasn't a mutual decision at all. He was told in mid December that the team would be moving on after the season.

I’d say Jim Harbaugh meets that criteria. He was pretty successful in SF then took the Michigan job.
