Again, Clowney and Beasley cost us $23 mil for both of them (virtually zero we got out of them). So keep Conklin, maybe still sign a guy like Clowney and save the darn 1st round pick for whoever. Conklin was a pro-bowl player for Cleveland. We signed Kelly for $21 mil, three years which we don't do if we keep Conklin. Cutting Kelly cost us about $4 mil of dead money and we also signed Lamm at $3 mil a year. So we have $7 mil on the CAP right now at RT.

And AGAIN, we have a 1st round pick we can use on another position who could contribute last year and this year. And what Jones did we re-sign?

We didn’t re-sign Jones. So he’s gone either way requiring the Autry FA signing. We sign Conklin to his big deal, probably can’t sign autry and still have a hole on the DL. We can only speculate on whoever would have been drafted instead of Wilson and yes, I wanted Grossmatos even despite letting Conklin walk.

Conklin signed 3/ $42 mil. So even at $7 mil still on the books, that’s half what Conklin would cost and for what gain? We already had a 2K back and a well protected QB without him.

Beasley and Clowney being major busts doesn’t make letting conklin go a bad move at all. Even Wilson being the bust that he was doesn’t make letting Conklin go a bad move.
Overall, I think the bad moves were the selections AFTER letting Conklin walk, not letting Conklin walk.

IMO their are certain positions that are worth paying top dollar for and are worth drafting in the first rnd and right tackle isn’t one of them.

Conklin is the 2nd highest paid RT in the league at 14 mil. Only 4 RTs make over 10mil a year....most are in the 7.5 mil category.

I will gladly pay less for a RT to have the cap space to improve my pass rush.

I think the thing with the Conklin debate is we traded down from 1 and then traded up again to draft him. Then we let him walk after his rookie deal...if you're going to trade up to take a RT then you would think he's the longterm answer at RT

We should have stayed at 15 and took Taylor Decker.

What exactly does long term mean to you? 4 yrs is a pretty long time in the NFL..so when JRob moved up in the draft he was moving up in order to get a guy who could start immediately and give him 4-5 yrs of solid RT play. In my mind JRob made a long term move.

Drafting someone is not a longterm move if he's not here longer than his rookie deal...thats a draft pick

Did Henry sign a long term deal with us when he signed his most recent contract?

Since we drafted Henry then signed him to an extension, I would say he was a longterm move

Anyone not remember conklin tore an acl then came back and was sub par alot of the season. You take a gamble with a guy that size with a serious injury like that and hope his body can hold up.

Before you say anything yes Taylor is coming back this year but we already got him tied down, and solid LTs are like hens teeth. So no let's not cut him.

That is true but not quite all the truth.. we traded for a bunch of capital, took some of that capital and used it on Conklin, still leaving us with more. It isnt like we gave up picks that were crucial to trade up to get him.

So in a way you could say we traded the number 1 overall pick for Conklin and a handful of more picks.
